It is good to praise the LORD
and make music to your name, O Most High,
to proclaim your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,
(Psalm 92:1-2)
Do you find the New Testament command to give thanks unceasingly equivalent to the Old Testament declaration to proclaim the love of God in the morning and praise Him for His faithfulness at night?
Why would God ask us to do that?
Because there is great blessing in doing so!
The awareness of God’s love, mercy, and provision naturally leads to a response of thankfulness. And thankfulness is heavenly divine!
God, in love and wisdom, knows that expressing thanks is precisely what adds an Eden quality and joy to this life - here and now.
Thankfulness for the Lord’s salvation brings deep, lasting soul satisfaction. Trying to find contentment in any other earthly thing only creates a void of unfulfilled longing. Charles H. Spurgeon said it best, "You say, 'If I had a little more, I should be very satisfied.' You make a mistake. If you are not content with what you have, you would not be satisfied if it were doubled."
God is our contentment and joy. With eloquence in her pen, Hannah Whitall Smith wrote: "Seeing our Father in everything makes life one long thanksgiving and gives a rest of heart and, more than that, a gayety of spirit that is unspeakable."
I pray we aspire to this one thing: To make our lives one long thanksgiving song.
Giving thanks, regardless of situation and circumstance, opens us up to the abundant grace of God. Plus, it is a way to give our good Father a hug for all He is and all He does; ...
It’s a way to make every day thanksgiving-day!
Holy God, give us eyes to see You everywhere, everyday. Tune our hearts to sing thanksgiving our whole life through. In the blessed name of Jesus, Amen.
