“I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you.

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,

will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you

as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.”

(John14:25-27 CSB)

There’s nothing better to remember this whole world over than Jesus' assuring words of promise.

Power for living is within the truth He proclaimed. It helps His people remain steadfast in living God-glorifying lives. Which is why He shared them with His disciples at His last supper.

Though He would be leaving, Jesus gifted them with assurance . . . promise. He assured His disciples that those obedient to His word will have the Father’s love and the Spirit residing, ever-present, within. Though going, He would make a way to enjoy continual fellowship with the Trinity.

Jesus promised that the Father would send the Holy Spirit in His name. The Breath of Heaven would be the other-wordly in this troubled world. And Jesus would give shalom, a heavenly, divine peace. It is a peace, in the face of trouble, that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Jesus explained the important role of the Counselor as Teacher, Guide, and Comforter. He would remind the apostles of important doctrines in the face of extreme circumstances and persecution. He discloses the things of God, giving discernment, wisdom, and understanding. And He leads the Lord’s disciples in His perfect will.

It is a grace beyond measure, worthy of our celebration, to consider that God the Father, because of Christ the Son, dwells within His people through the Person of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is indeed God With Us!

These are life-giving words Jesus spoke the night before He gave His life. They were delivered so hearts would not be troubled. For the Spirit who dwells within those who love, trust, and obey the Christ is greater than this world’s troubles.

The Helper is Eternity in our souls, Peace in our hearts, and Power for life and godliness. And it was all promised and provided by King Jesus.
